Our pieces are designed to come along on your everyday adventures, from salty morning walks to golden-hour swims. We work only with 14k gold-filled, PVD gold-plated, and sterling silver, metals chosen because they hold up to sun, sand, water, and everyday wear. Wear them often, and they won't tarnish from regular use.
That said, nearly all jewelry metals can tarnish with enough time and exposure. A little care goes a long way in keeping your pieces looking brand new for years.
What Causes Tarnish?
Tarnish is a natural reaction between metal and its surroundings. It builds up gradually, not from a single wear, and it's easy to prevent. What speeds it up:
- Consistent contact with body oils, lotion, sunscreen, perfume, and hairspray.
- Chlorine (pools and hot tubs) and household cleaning products.
14k Gold-Filled
A thick layer of real 14k gold bonded to the metal beneath, so it won't flake or rub off. It's made to handle water, sweat, and everyday wear. To keep it at its shiniest:
- Rinse with fresh water after the ocean.
- Skip pools, hot tubs, and cleaning products.
- Polish now and then with a soft cloth.
Sterling Silver
Solid silver all the way through, made to last a lifetime. Silver naturally darkens over time, and wearing it often actually keeps it bright. For extra shine:
- Rinse and dry after the ocean.
- Store it in a zip bag between wears.
PVD Gold-Plated
A hard layer of gold fused to the metal beneath, highly resistant to water, sweat, and tarnish. To keep the finish flawless:
- Rinse after the ocean or a workout.
- Steer clear of harsh chemicals and rough surfaces.
